Preservation and Archiving
The Pakistan Review of Social Sciences (PRSS) is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation and accessibility of its published content. To achieve this, the journal utilizes the PKP Preservation Network (PN), a sustainable and reliable preservation service designed to safeguard scholarly content for future generations.
PKP Preservation Network (PN)
The PKP Preservation Network is a free, distributed preservation service that uses the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system. This system ensures that the content of PRSS is preserved in multiple, geographically distributed locations, providing redundancy and protection against data loss.
Key Features of PKP PN for PRSS:
1. Distributed Archiving: PRSS content is stored across multiple servers worldwide, ensuring that even in the event of a server failure, the content remains accessible.
2. Automatic Updates: The PKP PN regularly harvests and updates the content of *PRSS*, ensuring that the latest issues and articles are preserved.
3. Open Access: The preserved content remains openly accessible to readers, researchers, and institutions, aligning with PRSS's commitment to open scholarship.
4. Long-Term Sustainability: The PKP PN is designed to provide long-term preservation, ensuring that *PRSS* content remains available for decades to come.
How PRSS Content is Preserved:
- Content Harvesting: The PKP PN automatically harvests and archives the full text of all articles published in PRSS.
- Checksum Verification: Regular checksum verification ensures the integrity of the archived content, detecting and correcting any data corruption.
- Redundant Storage: Multiple copies of the content are stored in different locations, providing resilience against data loss.
Access to Archived Content:
The archived content of PRSS is accessible through the PKP PN, ensuring that even if the journal's primary website becomes unavailable, the content can still be retrieved. Readers can access the preserved content via the PKP PN interface or through participating libraries and institutions.
Commitment to Open Access and Preservation:
PRSS is dedicated to the principles of open access and long-term preservation. By participating in the PKP Preservation Network, the journal ensures that its content remains a valuable resource for the global academic community, now and in the future.
